My experience with academia is genuinely international.

University of Strathclyde, Glasgow, Scotland

I am currently an academic member of the iSchool of the Computer and Information Sciences Department at the University of Strathclyde. I coordinate two projects, one on the skills of records managers in Zambia, and one on creating a community of practice around decolonisation in GLAMs and academic institutions.

Sofia University “St Kliment Ohridski”

From October 2020 to August 2023 I made an attempt to reintegrate to my native Bulgaria and worked at the University of Sofia. Reintegration was not really easy and although I was extremely successful in bringing EC funding, I was not welcome with what I could contribute. I was not offered a proper academic job (was some sort of a researcher, fixed term and being treated as a support staff when I clearly contributed leadership which could expand the research portfolio), and after being the named coordinator on a 2.5 M Horizon project, I got replaced with someone else when it was selected for funding. I do not believe such behaviours need to be tolerated.

UCL Qatar

Since August 2017 I am an Associate Professor, UCL Qatar (Library and information studies).

I also coordinated the MA in LIS programme (October 2017-September 2018) and in this time I spearheaded the development of four pathways within the MA programme.

University of Malta

From February 2012 to August 2017 I was an Associate Professor (resident academic) at the Faculty of Media and Knowledge Sciences.
I also served as the Head of Department Library, Information, and Archive Sciences (September 2013-April 2015) when I revised the Bachelor programme and extended the portfolio of the departmental programmes to reach Master’s level. I had the privilege to supervise the first MA in LIS graduates of Malta!
